Cut Loose

This year we seem to be making far more sets of new standing rigging than ever. Most of these are replacing wire that is just plain worn out - but one or two are for boats that for one reason or another have lost their rigs . . .

. . . we all hope and pray it never happens - but it just might. Whether it's a mast or a rigging failure you need to know what to do and how to do it. More than likely it will be windy and rough. If the mast has broken, the chances are the whole mess will be thrashing about doing damage to your boat - which will be incredibly unstable and violent in its motion with no rig to steady it.

If this is the case you need to cut it all free as quickly as possible - and you need the right tools for the job. A pair of ordinary wire cutters - even bolt cutters - won't even sniff at it.
You need a tool designed for cutting multistrand stainless wire or rod, we have these in stock and if you really want to see how these compare with what you have tucked away in the bilge, bring them in and see for yourself just how difficult cutting wire can be. We can also add realistic effects!!! If your rigging is rod or wire that is 10mm or more in diameter you will need either hydraulic cutters or a specialist device like the one in the picture above which is powered by an explosive cartridge and can be operated with one hand leaving you free to hold on with the other.
